Also is there a nice way to do breakpoint debugging of python tests? Currently I'm just using println statements which basically amounts to checking random variables I think are important around areas in the trace which I think are important but it would be nice to be able to see how all the variables/values change through the execution rather than picking variables/region of the code almost blindly

Are you trying to add breakpoints to Python or Rust?

I was able to get it working! Didn't realize it already worked for regular python files and was trying to do things specific to pytest files
